As winter blankets Portland, Maine, our downtown transforms into a festive wonderland filled with twinkling lights and seasonal cheer. This year, Portland Downtown and Hood® Eggnog invite downtown businesses to celebrate the holidays through our Light Up Your Holidays programming.

About Light Up Your Holidays

Light Up Your Holidays is the framework that encompasses four exciting programs:

Monument Square Tree Lighting: Kicking off the holiday celebrations, this iconic event attracts thousands and creates a vibrant atmosphere that boosts foot traffic.
Merry Madness Shopping Tour: An anticipated event with an estimated 1,200 to 1,400 shoppers, it promotes local shopping and showcases exclusive holiday offers.
Portland Winter City Lights: This program will illuminate downtown, inviting visitors to explore the stunning seasonal installations—a cherished 25-year tradition in our city.
Holiday Window Display Contest: Businesses can creatively showcase their storefronts, attracting community votes and prizes. We can connect you with local artists to help with your display!

Get Involved

This year, we’re excited to introduce the Light Up Your Holidays Map! This map will serve as a comprehensive guide to all wintertime activities in downtown Portland and will be distributed at the Monument Square Tree Lighting and other high-traffic areas. It will highlight:

The location of the tree lighting festivities
Portland Winter City Lights installations
Merry Madness participating businesses (with a spot for shoppers to collect stickers)
Holiday Window Display Contest participants

To get featured on the map, Downtown businesses can:
