Portland Downtown to launch city’s first pet friendly directory

PORTLAND, Me. — Portland Downtown will soon launch Pet Friendly Portland, ME — the City of Portland’s first pet friendly directory, listing downtown spots pet owners are welcome to bring their furry companions.

The directory, coming soon to PortlandLovesPets.com, sorts downtown Portland’s pet friendly stops into the following categories: Art + Culture, Dining, Lodging, Recreation, Shopping, and Trips + Tours.

“Our office is often approached by locals and visitors alike who are on the hunt for pet friendly recommendations. With Pet Friendly Portland, ME these pet owners will know where they can bring their pet in for some quick shopping, the location of the nearest water bowl, and what eateries offer outdoor dining,” said Portland Downtown Executive Director Cary Tyson.

The new directory comes just months after UnofficialNetworks.com named Portland the nation’s most dog friendly city, edging out other U.S. municipalities with its number of parks, pet shops, and more.

Pet-friendly businesses downtown can register for the directory at PortlandLovesPets.com. Businesses can specify what pets are allowed (dogs, cats, all), what restrictions apply (on-leash, outdoors, with fee) and even what amenities they offer (water bowl, treats, etc.).

“A quick jaunt downtown and you’re bound to lay eyes on several tail-wagging pups — and maybe even an adventure cat or two. This directory is a long time coming, and we’re happy to finally offer it as a resource,” added Tyson.

Registered businesses will receive a complimentary Pet Friendly Portland, ME static cling for their front windows, alerting passersby that they are a pet friendly business here in the city.

Portland Downtown is a 501c4 non-profit Downtown Improvement District. Our mission is to stimulate a vibrant, thriving, and sustainable downtown community.
