On Friday, September 19, 2025, parking spots across downtown Portland, Maine will transform into vibrant community parks. Join us for a celebration filled with connection, creativity, and fun!
Portland Park(ing) Day is part of a global movement where cities reinvent public spaces. Portland Downtown and the City of Portland Sustainability Office, together with local nonprofits, organizations, and businesses, will create dynamic parklets that inspire and engage. Last year, we delighted visitors with the “Where’s Slugger?” photo gallery and a Baxter Woods replica. This year promises even more creativity!

Explore the Parklets!
Celebrate with us on Friday, September 19, 2025! From 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., explore Portland’s vibrant parklets created by local organizations and businesses.
Here’s How to Join the Fun:
- Visit parklets on your commute, at lunchtime, or anytime between 8am-2:00pm! Each one will have a map of all participating parklets across Portland – wander through unique interactive parklets around the city. Each one offers engaging activities designed to inspire and connect.
- Stay Updated: We will share a digital map with parklet locations and photos throughout the day with printed cards for pickup of download. For the latest updates, follow us on Instagram or Facebook @PortlandDowntown and @sustainableportlandme .
- Spread the Word and share the fun on social media – post using #parkingday2025

Be a Host!
Businesses, organizations, local nonprofits, artists, crafters, and vendors – now’s your chance to turn a parking space into a captivating parklet that invites community interaction!
Event Details:
- Date: Friday, September 19, 2025
- Time: Set up your parklet between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. You must be onsite during this period to engage with visitors. Feel free to set up earlier or stay later if you wish.
Guidelines for Your Parklet:
- Be Creative & Engaging: Design your parklet to be interactive and hands-on. Offer activities, workshops, or a welcoming space where visitors can connect and enjoy.
- Space Rental: Rent a specific parking space for $35 from the City of Portland via this permit application. If you need more space, apply for additional areas.
- Identify Your Space: Make sure to select and identify your specific parking space ahead of time. Keep your parklet within these boundaries.
How to Get Involved:
- Submit Required Paperwork:
- Submit a permit application with a $35 application fee per space.
- Send a completed hold harmless agreement to the City of Portland (email kmeyer@portlandmaine.gov) by September 13. In the email, please include the organization and the location of your parking spot to be added to the map.
- Borrow a cone + No Parking sign from City Hall to place on your chosen parking space overnight, ensuring non one parks in your parklet. Pick up your cone from City Hall & No Parking sign no later than Wednesday, September 17th at 5pm.
- Have fun on Park(ing) Day!
