Paint & Sit will bring seating, color to downtown spaces this summer.
PORTLAND, Me. — Portland Downtown is now accepting proposals from local artists for its new outdoor seating project Paint & Sit.
Paint and Sit is a chair painting project with the objectives of beautifying the urban landscape, increasing civic participation, and supporting the local arts community. Adirondack chairs painted during this project will be used as public seating in the downtown district throughout the summer season.
“We’re excited about our continued efforts to program public space in our downtown. This year in addition to Milk Street we’re helping to program Dana Street. We have quite a few things planned — keep your eyes out — among them is hosting some creatively painted Adirondack chairs. Visitors and residents alike can enjoy a relaxing outdoor lunch or just watch the water in the core of the Old Port,” said Cary Tyson, executive director of Portland Downtown.
Proposals must be received or postmarked for delivery on or before April 10, 2023. Artists must be Portland- or Maine-based. Selected artists will be compensated $100 per chair. More details, including design guidelines, available here.
