PORTLAND, Maine – Portland Downtown, a 501c4 nonprofit downtown improvement district, is pleased to announce that nominations are open for seven seats on its volunteer board of directors. Property owners & business stakeholders in the downtown district (see map here) may submit a nomination online at portlandmaine.com/nominations. The deadline to submit a nomination is April 30, 2021.

“It’s an exciting time to join our board,” said Kim Farrar, VP of strategic initiatives at Avesta Housing and chair of Portland Downtown’s governance committee. “Our new executive director, Cary Tyson, joined us in June – and we also have a new five-year organizational strategic plan. Our incoming board members will have an active role in implementing the plan and helping us achieve our mission of creating a clean, safe, and vibrant downtown.”

After the nominations process, Portland Downtown will conduct its board elections online via a platform called Election Runner. Property owners & stakeholders within the downtown improvement district (DID) will receive unique voting credentials and voting instructions in the mail in June. From there, they will cast their votes securely online. Elected board members will officially begin July 1, 2021.

Portland Downtown’s seven open board seats will round out the organization’s diverse board, which is comprised of property owners and stakeholders representing a wide range of sectors including Retail, Residential, Professional Services, Financial, Restaurant, Accommodations, Entertainment, and Cultural/Nonprofit.
