Paper Tiger – 425 Fore Street
Paper Tiger is a restaurant on Fore Street in downtown Portland. Portland Downtown’s Marketing & Events Committee selected them as May’s Downtown Business of the Month and reached out to owner/operator Marcus Alcantara to learn more about the business. Read on to hear from Marcus!
Q: When did Paper Tiger open its doors in downtown Portland?
A: We opened March 21st, 2022. We just recently hit our 1-year anniversary!
Q: Why set up shop in downtown? 
A: When we first saw the place, it was the remnants of the Maine Lobster Shack. We instantly saw the potential of the space. We adore being downtown for many reasons. The location is amazing on a busy street with tons of foot traffic. Our large windows look out onto Fore Street, and we built a large window bar so our guests can people-watch and feel like they are a part of the bustling action. Our space also featured a 40-seat patio that was an instant sale for us. Those beautiful summer nights when you can smell the ocean air and have a cocktail are perfect for our island vibes. We are also located next to othergreat businesses and are helping to create a great community not only for the guests, but for us and other businesses as well.
Q: What’s the absolute best thing about Paper Tiger?
A: The absolute best thing about Paper Tiger is our ability to produce a great product
without taking ourselves too seriously. We constantly play with classics and put our kooky, nerdy touch on everything we come in contact with. We have no box and no limits.We can’t wait to see what weird and silly combinations we come up with in the future.
