It takes time to come into focus. Upstate—a band nearly ten years in the making—is finding its essence. Founding members Mary Webster, Melanie Glenn, Harry D’Agostino, and Dean Mahoney have grown older and wiser over these years, motley in their pasts, yet ever-evolving in their presents. Having cut their teeth together as artists and musicians over hundreds of shows and two studio albums, including 2019’s acclaimed collection ‘healing,’ their four individual artistic visions and distinct musical voices have grown into a whole more significant than the sum of its parts.

At times, Upstate has been known for a large ensemble of eclectic instruments and musicians, while at others for featuring dazzling three-part vocal harmonies. They’ve weaved genres and grooves from across time and across the map, but always filtered through the region of the world they call home in the Hudson River Valley of New York State. They’ve captured audiences in large concert halls and intimate living rooms. They’ve been invited to share stages with heroes like The Wood Brothers and Lake Street Dive, while putting in their ten thousand hours as local dive bar staples. They’ve performed at countless festivals across the United States, at times, as the first act of the afternoon, and yet with all odds against them, Upstate has learned to run the tables, bringing audiences to their feet and joy to their souls.

Entering a new decade in tumultuous times, Upstate have grown to understand themselves both individually and as a unit and find gratitude in being able to play their role in the circle of the song. And through that revelation has recommitted themselves to the values of truth-telling and authenticity above all. Upstate has always been a band that writes honest songs, but 2020 is shaping up to be their most truthful year yet. Audiences can count on what the group has always been known for: musicianship, harmony, and a “leave-it-all-up-there” show. They can also expect something that’s both new and years in the making—a band that’s coming into focus.

MIDNIGHT BREAKFAST is an indie-soul sextet from Maine. Since forming during their sophomore year of college in 2019, the band has become a household name. Initially covering standards and funk tunes, the unit recorded its self-titled debut album Midnight Breakfast during quarantine
and released it in January 2021. A showcase of instrumental improvisation and explorative long jams, Midnight Breakfast blends groovy melodies and blissfully jazz-kissed vocals to make each performance energizing, and ultimately unforgettable.
