Choro from Brazil to Maine!

Join Choro das 3 and Choro Louco for an evening of beautiful melodies, complex harmonies, and syncopated rhythms at Mayo Street Arts.

Choro das 3 is a Brazilian band of three sisters. Corina, the oldest sister, plays flute and piccolo, Lia plays acoustic 7-string guitar, and Elisa, the youngest sister, plays mandolin, clarinet, banjo, piano, and accordion.

The band plays Brazilian instrumental music based on choro, an instrumental music genre that emerged in Brazil in the 19th century to become a foundation for Brazilian music. Choro combines elements from many styles of music: European folk and classical; ragtime; jazz; Latin; and African music – creating a mix that is uniquely Brazilian and enchanting.

The band will be joined by the local group Choro Louco. The band was formed in 2013 by accomplished musicians who have established themselves as virtuosos in other genres – ranging from classical music and jazz to Celtic, klezmer, and Middle Eastern music.
