MAINE, August 2023: Bees Deluxe, the Boston-based, British-bred blues band is coming to Maine. Distinguished by their ability to seamlessly blend blues with elements of jazz, funk and psychedelia, the band has won audiences from Maine to Miami with the genre-bending sound they call “acid blues.”

Fronted by Conrad Warre, a masterful guitarist and vocalist who cut his musical chops touring with Joe Jackson, The English Beat and The Specials in Europe, Warre moved to NYC at the height of the punk rock movement and quickly became a headliner at the legendary CBGB’s. He formed Bees Deluxe to explore the music that informed his musical taste and that “speaks to the soul.” Joined by keyboardist Carol Band, drummer Paul Giovine and bassist Jim Gildea, the band is known for tight arrangements, unexpected improvisation and a playful sense of fun.

Unlike other blues bands, Bees Deluxe refrain from rehashing the current top ten hits of standard blues progressions and playing the same solos at every show every night. Instead, Bees Deluxe tears up their set list and opens up the music exploring different pathways at each show. They might open with a full-blast fully-leaded lead guitar exposition of a Hoagy Carmichael ballad and finish with a ghostly and transparent instrumental from Junior Walker & the All Stars. Their music is readily fleshed out with danceable and interesting originals like “Imaginary Conversation Between Bjork & Buddy Guy” and their ode to “Beer” –featuring ecstatic harmonica playing from Carol Band. Both songs are from their critically acclaimed all original album “Voice of Dog.”

“We are thrilled to be touring in Maine, said Warre, “especially in the summer! From Rockland to Old Orchard Beach, we love the folks in Maine because they don’t just know about music…. they know how to dance!”

Bees Deluxe return to Blue, 650 Congress St # A, Portland on Saturday August 19th at 10pm
