SUMMARY:Vetiver w/ Maia Friedman
DESCRIPTION:ADVANCE PURCHASE: $15\nAT THE DOOR: $20\n10% MEMBER DISCOUNT
\n\nAt the artist's request\, proof of vaccination + masks are required
for this show. Please see our full Covid-19 policy below.\n\nOn this upc
oming tour\, the Vetiver band will be a trio with drummer Otto Hauser an
d Dan Iead on guitar and pedal steel. Otto and Dan’s great sense of sp
ace and melody bring an openness to the arrangements. This is the first
tour along the Atlantic since 2018’s duo shows with Eric D. Johnson an
d first Vetiver shows in the Northeast and New York since the 2019 relea
se of the album Up On High.\n\nAndy Cabic’s musical being is\, like ma
ny curious 21st century musicians\, shaped and sustained by divergent ta
ngents. If he’s not crafting a melancholy folk rock diamond in his Nor
thern California studio\, he’s moving a dance floor with bossa nova an
d house DJ sets\, or helping curate a compilation of Japanese City Pop.\
n\nWhat’s magic about this new Vetiver LP Up On High is the way these
tangents color the ten songs without undermining a distinct move to more
elemental\, spacious and natural arrangements. At the heart of each of
these ten songs is Cabic’s voice: sweet\, tender and weathered—a wel
come and soothing old friend if ever there was one. There are other fami
liar friends: the album also features longtime engineer and collaborator
Thom Monahan and the same resourceful and versatile band that helped Ca
bic make the more dense and layered Complete Strangers from 2015.\n\nUp
On High was written on acoustic guitar. Having moved twice since Complet
e Strangers\, increasingly accustomed to a life in and out of boxes\, it
was the easiest instrument to reach for in moments of inspiration. The
basic tracking of the album took place over a few Spring days at a frien
d’s house in the high desert of California. This simple set-up capture
d the organic immediacy of a roomful of friends playing together on the
floor. It’s alive and ever so subtly crackling with the intensity of a
band working together\, teasing out the melody and rhythms of songs wit
h warmth and intimacy. Cabic and Monahan took the fruits of this session
to Los Angeles and finished the album at Monahan’s studio over the su
mmer as other friends popped by to lend their talents.\n\nThis album ref
lects the world that Cabic created and lives in: Jorge Ben phrasings pee
 k out from behind Tom Petty’s Wildflowers outtakes\, a gentle jangle l
ifts whispers of REM’s Murmur on a breeze up from Compass Point Studio
 s. But Up On High is most clearly Cabic and his band inhabiting the real
m the band was born in—sleek\, economical\, soulful\, and sometimes sa
dness-tinged melodies riding on the gentle choogle and sway of an ensemb
le moving in beautiful unison. This is an album that breathes with you i
 n real\, lived in\, natural time.\n\nCovid-19 Policy\, effective August
3\, 2022:\n\nOLS is committed to providing a safe environment for all wh
o work\, listen\, or perform live music in our venue. Because our venue
is so small\, we will require all staff\, volunteers\, and patrons to we
ar masks indoors unless they are actively drinking\, eating\, or perform
ing. Certain shows\, at the request of those artists\, will also require
proof of vaccination against COVID-19 for entry to OLS.\n\nProof of vac
cine must come directly from the health care provider that performed the
vaccination and can be a photo or physical copy of the vaccination card
or record. Full vaccination means that the date of the performance you
are attending is:\n\n* at least 14 days after your second dose of an FDA
or WHO authorized two dose COVID-19 vaccine\, or\n\n* at least 14 days
after your single dose of an FDA or WHO authorized single dose COVID vac
cine.\n\nWe will require mask usage as our default policy unless stated
otherwise\; please refer to the language on each concert's event page to
check the policy for the show you are attending.\n\nWe hope we can ease
these restrictions once further progress has been made in reducing the
transmission of the virus. Until then\, we greatly appreciate your patie
 nce and cooperation.
