SUMMARY:Tate House Summer Lecture
DESCRIPTION:– Tate House Museum is pleased to announce our third illus
 trated Outdoor Summer Lecture to be held on Wednesday\, September 15 at 
 7:30 pm on the beautiful lawn behind the Tate House. Rain date is Thursd
 ay\, September 16.\nAndrew Vietze is the bestselling author of more than
  a dozen books. He splits his time between the coast of Maine and the de
 ep North Woods serving as a ranger for half the year at Baxter State Par
 k. His books include bestseller “Boon Island” and “Becoming Teddy 
 Roosevelt\,” which won a silver Independent Publishers Book Award\, wa
 s a finalist for the Book of the Year Award\, and was honored by the Mai
 ne State Legislature. As a freelance journalist\, Vietze has published i
 n a number of online and print magazines and other publications. His tal
 k will focus on his book “White Pine: American History and the Tree th
 at Made a Nation” with a special focus on the mast trade in the Portla
 nd area that was central to the lives of the Tate family.\nTickets are $
 15 per person for the general public and $12 for Tate House Museum membe
 rs. New member sign-ups will receive a free “Tate Tote” bag as part 
 of our promotional Summer Membership Drive. Tickets are available in adv
 ance at the Tate House Gift Shop during open hours (Thurs-Sat 10-4) or\n
 starting at 7:00 PM on the day of the lecture.\nThis is an outdoor lectu
 re so please bring a lawn chair or blanket for open seating. The backyar
 d can be cooler or breezy in the evenings so please plan accordingly.\nL
 ocated at 1270 Westbrook Street in the historic Stroudwater Neighborhood
 \, the 1755 Tate House was constructed for Captain George Tate\, Senior 
 Mast Agent for the British Royal Navy. The Tate House Museum is the only
  Pre-Revolutionary home in Greater Portland open to the public and offer
 s an\ninsightful glimpse at the 18th century and life in Colonial Maine 
 through impressive period furnishings\,\nbeautiful grounds\, herb garden
