SUMMARY:Open House\, Extended Hours and Extended Exhibit: UNE Art Galler
 y\, Portland
DESCRIPTION:The University of New England Art Gallery on the Portland Ca
mpus is pleased to present “The Permanent Photography Collection: Rece
nt Acquisitions in the Stephen K. Halpert Photography Collection at UNEâ
€ť\n\nAn Open House will be held Saturday\, September 25th\, from 12-5pm
 . Rain date: Sunday\, September 26\, 12-5pm.\n\nExhibition extended thro
 ugh October 8th\, 2021\n\nHours: Thursday\, Friday\, Saturday and Sunday
12-5pm\n\nThis omnibus exhibit features recently collected photographic
works selected by Stephen Halpert\, Curator of Photography and steward
of the Stephen K. Halpert Photography Collection at UNE. Established in
2016 through the generosity of Judy Glickman Lauder and Leonard Lauder\,
this permanent collection places UNE at the forefront of academic galle
ry collecting in the region\, in the discipline of photography.\n\nExten
ding from work that is documentary in nature to carefully-composed table
aux\, the work in the Stephen K. Halpert Photography Collection demonstr
ates a sensitivity to both place and narrative. Maine—Portland\, in pa
rticular—exists as both subject matter and formal starting place\, pro
viding an anchor for work that ranges as far as Somalia\, Togo\, England
 \, Spain\, and Vietnam. Halpert’s finely-calibrated sense of compositi
on and movement allows the work in this exhibition to form an unfolding
narrative that speaks to the human condition. Introspective and noisy\,
dynamic and tranquil\, these photos serve as a reminder that we all inha
bit the same spaces with individual rhythms and perspectives. UNE is gra
teful to Judy Glickman Lauder and Leonard Lauder for their gift\, and to
Stephen Halpert for his vision.\n\nContact Info\nHilary Irons\n\nUNE Ar
