DESCRIPTION:Vibraphonist Nihco Gallo is joined by tap dancer Ayan Imai-H
 all\, drummer Zak King\, and bassist Ross Gallagher at Cove Street Arts.
 \n\nConcert is at Cove Street Arts\, 71 Cove St. Portland\, ME.\n\nNihco
  Gallo and the Bad-Year Society present an evening of improvised music w
 ith influences from around the world.\n\nRepertoire includes the music o
 f Hoagy Charmichael\, Astor Piazzolla\, Ornette Coleman and more\, woven
  together by original compositions and free improvisation.\n\nNihco Gall
 o has established for himself a unique place in the Southern Maine and N
 ew Hampshire music landscape\, earning performance bona fides in jazz cl
 ubs\, dive bars\, and on the street. The self-taught mallet percussionis
 t draws influence from jazz\, minimalism\, and music from South America.
  In spring 2020\, Gallo incorporated the Bad-Year Society (featuring tap
  dancer Ayan Imai-Hall and drummer Zak King) and established a rigorous 
 schedule of street performances throughout New England.\n\nNew Hampshire
  native Ayan Imai-Hall started tap dancing when he was eight years old a
 nd has since performed across the nation with companies including Atlant
 ic Steps\, Tap Kids\, Tapestry\, and Subject Matter. In 2012\, Ayan was 
 awarded a Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grant by the New Hampshire Sta
 te Council on the Arts with blues musician and educator\, TJ Wheeler.\n\
 nZak King is an in-demand New York City based drummer. Since graduating 
 with his Master’s of Music in Performance at the New England Conservat
 ory of Music\, Zak has performed in many off-broadway performances\, jaz
 z nights and festivals\, metal concerts\, and has worked with artists in
 cluding David Newsam\, Matt Savage\, Michael Beling\, Kenny Cha\, and Sh
 ane Dylan. He currently performs with Javier Rosario\, J.J. Johnson\, Dz
 ö-nga\, Ice Giant\, Purging Sin\, and Vibrater.\n\nRoss Gallagher is a 
 composer and multi-instrumentalist who draws upon and works within a var
 iety of American musical traditions. He has collaborated with Bill McHen
 ry\, Jorge Rossy\, Andrew D'Angelo\, Kenny Wollesen\, Marc Ribot\, Joe H
 enry &amp\; Hurray for the Riff Raff. He currently divides his time betw
 een Brooklyn\, NY and the Maine coast.\n\nDoors open at 7:30 pm | Show s
