DESCRIPTION:Mike Block Trio\, Featuring Joe K. Walsh (mandolin) and Zach
 ariah Hickman (bass)\, is a supergroup of three unique and virtuosic mus
 icians. By fertilizing American roots music with contemporary and intern
 ational influences\, they bring an exciting and personal perspective to 
 acoustic music.\n\nMike Block is a pioneering cello player\, singer\, co
 mposer\, and educator\, passionate about cross-cultural collaboration th
 rough music. Acclaimed by the New York Times for his “vital rich-hued 
 solo playing”\, and by Salt Lake City Desert News as “a true artist
  a sight to behold”\, Mike Block “is one of the bravest\, most int
 riguing musicians on the American fusion scene.” (Gramophone). Mike’
 s performances offer a rich mixture of classical repertoire\, folk music
 \, original compositions\, and songs. Since 2005\, Mike has been a membe
 r of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble\, with which he has been featured a
 s both cello and vocal soloist\, contributed arrangements and compositio
 ns\, and earned a Grammy Award in 2017 for their album Sing Me Home.\n\n
 Mike is among the first wave of cellists to adopt a strap to stand and m
 ove while performing. Using his patented design\, The Block Strap. Mike 
 was the first standing cellist to perform at Carnegie Hall\, which the N
 ew York Times characterized as “breathless … half dance\, half dare.
 ” In 2020\, Mike founded Play For The Vote\, which organizes musical p
 erformances at polling locations across the country on Election Day\, wi
 th the goal of increasing voter turnout by providing a more positive vot
 ing experience. As an educator\, he is the founder/Director of two summe
 r programs: the Mike Block String Camp\, as well as Silkroad’s Global 
 Musician Workshop. Mike teaches online through his Multi-Style Cello Sch
 ool at ArtistWorks.com\, and is on faculty of New England Conservatory.\
 n\nJoe K. Walsh is a Bluegrass mandolin player and singer known internat
 ionally as an exceptionally tasteful player from his work with the legen
 dary Gibson Brothers band\, which the International Bluegrass Music Asso
 ciation (IBMA) has named winner of awards for Entertainer of the Year\, 
 Album of the Year\, Vocal Group of the Year\, and Song of the Year. Joe 
 has also released two recordings under his own name\, featuring original
  compositions and vocals\, as well as friend and legendary fiddler Darol
  Anger\, with whom Joe regularly tours. After being the first mandolinis
 t to graduate from the Berklee College of Music on that instrument\, Joe
  returned to Berklee in 2011 as both a mandolin instructor and as Managi
 ng Director of the American Roots Music Program.\n\nZachariah Hickman is
  a double bassist\, singer\, multi-instrumentalist and producer based ou
 t of Boston\, MA. Originally from Lynchburg\, VA\, he received his forma
 l training in jazz performance and composition from the Oberlin Conserva
 tory of Music. For most of his adult life he has toured with singer-song
 writer Josh Ritter\, traveling all over the world and recording 7 full-l
 ength albums. Currently\, he is performing as bassist and musical direct
 or for Ray Lamontagne. He has performed at many notable venues and festi
 vals\, including Carnegie Hall\, Radio City Music Hall\, Red Rocks\, Bon
 aroo\, Dublin Castle\, The Fillmore\, and the Royal Albert Hall. With Jo
 sh Ritter\, he has also performed with the Boston Pops in Symphony Hall\
 , the New York Pops in Central Park\, and many other orchestras in Europ
 e and the United States. Television appearances include five David Lette
 rman appearances\, Conan O’brien\, Ellen Degeneres\, and Late Night wi
 th Jools Holland for the BBC. As a producer\, Zachariah as made records 
 with a number of talented singers\, including Rose Cousins (for which he
  won a Canadian JUNO award)\, Mark Erelli\, Laura Cortese\, Miss Tess\, 
 and his own bluegrass band Barnstar! He has also produced and ringmaster
 ed his own circus\, released his own brand of mustache wax\, and runs a 
 vaudeville style variety show\, Zack Hickman’s House of Ill Repute.
