DESCRIPTION:Richard Boyd Art Gallery is pleased to announce the opening 
 of a solo exhibition of paintings by nationally renowned landscape artis
 t and educator Deena S. Ball who is known for her innovative use of medi
 ums in combination with textured ground and specialized surfaces. Deena 
 creates landscape paintings to help others see\, respect\, and conserve 
 the beauty of our natural world.\n\n“When I choose to paint a scene\, 
 it's often the play of light across the landscape that inspires me. The 
 broad vistas and clear north light captivate me. If it's a scene from th
 e Maine coast\, I'm interested in how light and shadow interact with the
  jagged rocks\, contrasted with the perpetual shimmer of the moving ocea
 n.\n\nOn foggy days\, my focus shifts to the changing colors and subtle 
 value shifts. As I paint the scene and capture the effects of light\, a 
 particular mood emerges. The sparkling sun dancing across rocks and ocea
 n is invigorating\, while the early dawn\, painting the world pink and g
 lowing in tranquility\, is calming and hopeful. The Maine landscape has 
 a darker stormier side\, with deep pine woods where nothing stirs\, rive
 rs that are powerful enough to wash out roads\, a rising ocean that thre
 atens and does claim man’s creations. Perhaps it's the prevalence of s
 ullen skies that makes an artist appreciate the nuances of grey and the 
 full impact of a burst of sunlight.”\n\nDeena holds a BA in Art Histor
 y and Studio Art from Colby College in Waterville\, Maine and continued 
 her studies at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and Tyler School of Art.
  An active teaching artist for both adults and children\, she is regular
 ly invited to conduct workshops and presentations for artist’s organiz
 ations. Recent presentations and workshops include ones for the Philadel
 phia Watercolor Society\, Waterville Art Association\, Onodaga Art Socie
 ty\, Art Waves MDI\, Mendocino Art Center\, Artascope\, and Wayne Art Ce
 nter.\n\nDeena is a past president of the Philadelphia Watercolor Societ
 y\, co-founder and Artistic Director of the non-profit LandArt Events. S
 he has achieved signature status at the Philadelphia Watercolor Society\
 , Baltimore Watercolor Society\, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society\, and P
 ennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. Her work has been in numerous juried exh
 ibitions throughout the United States and published in Plein Air Magazin
 e\, Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine\, Splash\, Watercolor Artist\, and the
  pandemic event Great American Paint Out.\n\nThe exhibit is on view free
  of charge from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily from April 1st through Apr
