SUMMARY:Heather Newton Brown Exhibits at Richard Boyd Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Richard Boyd Art Gallery welcomes Heather Newton Brown to th
e group of artists represented by the gallery in southern Maine. Heather
is a gifted visual artist drawing inspiration from the combination of f
orms\, unexpected materials and processes. Inspired by the intersection
of the personal and transpersonal\, physical and etheric\, she uses enca
ustic\, mixed media\, mineral pigments\, and found items in her art.\n\n
Stop in the gallery to see several of her original encaustic paintings o
n exhibit in the annual ‘Serenity’ exhibition opening November 5th a
 t 10:00 a.m.\n\nAbout the Artist -\nHeather Newton Brown is a Maine-rais
ed visual artist currently living in Casco with her family. Heather iden
tifies as an “outsider artist\,” who is largely self-taught\, with i
nstruction from local master-painter Pat Chandler and guidance from advi
sors at Goddard College\, where she received her Bachelors of Arts. She
also holds a Master's Degree in Counseling from Union Institute and Univ
ersity.\n\nAs a young person\, Heather was nearly always making things o
r taking them apart. In the studio\, she strives to continue exploring t
he balance between deconstruction and construction\, believing that art
is the point when alchemy\, inspiration\, and vision collide. She is dra
wn to incorporating new and unexpected materials\, makes her own paints\
, and is most energized when the strange starts feeling familiar and the
familiar starts feeling strange. She believes art is alchemy. From the
combination of forms\, materials\, and processes\, something new is synt
hesized.\n\nIn her work\, Heather explores layers of physical and psychi
c material\, natural forms\, and elemental influences. Inspired by the i
ntersection of the personal and transpersonal\, physical and etheric\, s
he uses encaustic\, mixed media\, mineral pigments\, and found items.\n\
nWhen not painting\, Heather works as a psychotherapist. When not workin
g\, she enjoys spending time with her 4-legged and human companions\, vo
lunteering\, nature pursuits\, and scrounging around for scrap metal to
rust\, burn\, and incorporate into her next painting.\n\nHeather’s pai
ntings are exhibited regionally and part of numerous private collections
.\n\nFor more information about Heather or the exhibit contact the galle
